A rib-tickling Three-Act play about two bachelors- Jack and his friend Algernon. Jack loves Gwendolen and Algernon loves Cecily. Both the young girls wish to marry a man named Ernest. But Ernest is merely John’s imaginary irksome brother who apparently lands in trouble every now and then, giving Jack an excuse to visit London often to meet his lady love. A series of funny situations follow, mocking at the hypocrisies of Victorian England with tongue-in- cheek statements by the protagonists. The play ends on a happy note after a comic twist in the plot reveals that Jack’s birth name is Ernest. Both the couples are happily united as desired.
